Scalable Clustered Ecommerce
Avetti Commerce 7 supports Amazon's new EC2 service and can be setup to scale as load increases. This means that if you are running a marketing campaign and need more server capacity you can scale easily to support it or scale as the load happens. Then scale down when you no longer need the capacity.
To quote Amazon:
"Amazon EC2 presents a true virtual computing environment, allowing you to use web service interfaces to requisition machines for use, load them with your custom application environment, manage your network's access permissions, and run your image using as many or few systems as you desire." more...
What this means is that Amazon is renting their servers at their high quality data center to you for 10 cents per hour + transfer costs.
Therefore for about $100/month you can get a Dual Opteron server with 1.75GB of ram running Linux. A 2 node cluster is recommended to have failover and Amazons S3 service is used to backup data or backup the entire server.
The prices are attractive but this is not what makes this service compelling. The key advantage of this solution is that you can run new servers in minutes. This means you can increase the size of your cluster as your load increases in minutes to keep the servers running fast.
Avetti Commerce 7 EC2 edition is optimized for EC2. This Avetti.com site is running on at least a 2 server Amazon's EC2 cluster. We have found the speed ranging from very fast to acceptable with pages coming up as fast as 30 ms and 3 seconds in the worst case. As page load speed degrades the cluster can expand quickly to handle the increased load.
Of course if you run your own data center you can do better but if you are setting up a pilot project or if these speeds are acceptable then this is a great solution that has extremely fast deployment time. We estimate that for new customers that want to run Avetti Commerce 7 and not need customization a new site can be live 2 weeks after the data is ready to be uploaded from our spreadsheet import files.
